DIY Sling Bag

Hullo friends. Well here’s one for this designer’s Sling Bag, a casual lightweight purse or shoulder bag. With no extra materials like hardware needed, it’s a great project for sewers on a budget. The lack of zippers or closures also makes it an excellent choice for beginners. Plus, you also get to choose two of your favorite pieces of fabric so that you can make a trendy sling bag!!

Materials needed:

  • 1.25 yards mid-weight cotton or linen for main fabric/exterior
  • 1.25 yards mid-weight cotton or linen for lining
  • 1.25 yards cotton flannel for interlining
  • 1 - 1.5” button
  • Thread
  • For cross-body bag:
  • 3.5 yards 20” wide lightest weight fusible interfacing
  • For shoulder bag:
  • 4 yards 20” wide lightest weight fusible interfacing
  • Heavyweight/denim machine needle
  • Hand sewing needle
  • Disappearing Ink Marker
  • Quilting Ruler
  • Sleeve/mini ironing board (optional)
